Q: Is the Mona Lisa laser treatment effective for incontinence?

Q: Is the Mona Lisa laser treatment effective for incontinence?

by Dr. Barb DePree MD

You asked, Dr. Barb answered. You say you continue to have incontinence after doing both Kegel exercises and physical therapy. There isn’t any evidence to date that the Mona Lisa (laser) will be effective treatment for urinary incontinence. There are some very preliminary, small-scale studies suggesting radio-frequency devices (like ThermiVa and Viveve) may be effective treatments for mild to moderate stress incontinence, but this is still investigative: None of these is approved for this indication in the U.S. at this time.

I would recommend a urology consultation to consider surgery.
